Schenley Sports

There are some great places to work out and have fun in Pittsburgh throughout the summer. Schenley Park has trails, swimming pools, and events all summer long. Keep reading and check out their website for more details. What do you like to do during the summer to stay active?

Sports and Recreation
Bob O'Connor Golf Course
The Bob O'Connor Golf Course is a 4,600-yard natural public course on rolling terrain for golfers of all ages and abilities and is open all year round.  Amenities at the 18-hole, par 67 course include lessons, a snack bar, practice greens, and an indoor practice facility where golfers can play a "virtual" round on St. Andrews, Pebble Beach and 31 other famous courses.  The golf course is operated by The First Tee of Pittsburgh. Visit them online at www.thefirstteepittsburgh.org or call 412-622-6959.
Schenley Oval Sportsplex and Skating Rink
Pittsburghers looking for serious exercise will find it at the Schenley Oval with its 13 tennis courts, 400-meter all-weather running track, sports turf soccer field and high jump area, and cross-country trails. The Schenley Oval Sportsplex hosts the Citiparks Summer Senior Games; the area's largest cross-country meet, the Red, White & Blue Classic; and the Bob O'Connor Summer Tennis Classic. For more information, click here or call 412-255-2539.
The skating rink is open throughout the winter for ice skating, and its meeting facility is open year-round. Three special events--Skate with Santa, the Mascot Skate, and Valentine's on Ice--are held each season, with special group discount days throughout. For more information, click here or call 412-422-6523.
Swimming Pool
City pools are open Memorial Day to Labor Day and offer programming for infants, children and seniors. Classes include water awareness for young children, swim lessons and water aerobics. For information on season pool tags or daily admission fees, call 412-323-7928. During the summer, contact the pool at 412-422-4266.
Disc Golf Course
The 18-hole Disc Golf Course offers golf of a different kind. Standing at the designated tee areas, players attempt to throw their Frisbees into elevated baskets in the fewest possible tries. The course, which stretches from the Schenley Overlook to the Vietnam Veterans Pavilion, winds its way through the park's wooded areas. For more information, visit www.pfds.org or call the Pittsburgh Flying Disc Society at 724-933-6969.
Junction Hollow Fields
The 150-foot deep, 2.5-mile Junction Hollow Valley on the west border of Schenley Park contains several soccer fields as well as a portion of the Eliza Furnace trail.
